During the multi-day program, visiting facilitators worked with classrooms on lessons centered on leadership, personal responsibility, positive decision-making and teamwork. Students participated in interactive discussions and activities that encouraged them to lead by example and contribute positively to their school community — skills that help develop responsible and engaged citizens.

Teachers observed noticeable gains in student enthusiasm, confidence and collaboration throughout the week. “The program did a fantastic job bringing energy and getting the students excited about being involved,” said Alison Wallace, kindergarten teacher. “We definitely noticed a shift in morale as students practiced real-world leadership skills.”

The week culminated in a spirited color powder run, where students enjoyed physical activity while families and staff cheered them on. Assistant Principal Sean Conley joined in the celebration by taking a pie to the face — a fun reward students had earned through their collective efforts.

“It is an honor to be part of this initiative led by the Barkley PTO,” Conley said. “Seeing the energy and the powerful lessons about wellness and resiliency is inspiring. I’m genuinely excited about the positive impact this experience will have on our students, both in and beyond the classroom.”

The program reflects Barkley Elementary’s commitment to fostering leadership, gratitude, school pride and a strong sense of community.
